The Open
Microsoft, Alphabet and Goldman Sachs joined the companies refusing to let OKXICE trade tokens of their shares. Its Oct 19 notice names 16 objectors, 15 from the 62-company roster, so a quarter of the launch list is gone. The same notice quietly adds a second route: tokens issued by the company itself, not just a third party.
THE 3AM LINE: Quiet tape overnight; the only fresh print was rwa.xyz at $3.42B as of Oct 20, $20M below Sunday's read.
Top of the Tape
- OKXICE's Oct 19 notice added seven objectors: Microsoft, Alphabet, Goldman Sachs, Qualcomm, Caterpillar, McDonald's and Western Digital. Total: 16, with 47 roster companies still unobjected. Translation: OKXICE tokens are 1:1 backed claims, shares held at a broker-dealer with dividend and voting rights passed through. An objection shuts that one name out of that one venue; no reason is required. (CoinDesk; FinanceFeeds)
- The Oct 19 notice also allows tokens issued by the company itself. The Oct 15 version limited tokens to unaffiliated third parties. Translation: that is the issuer-authorized share route, the structure Securitize, Superstate and Figure already use. A company that objects to a third-party token could still tokenize its own stock. (Decrypt)
- Roster names Coinbase, Robinhood, Circle and Securitize had not objected as of Oct 19. Neither had JPMorgan, Walmart, Costco or Eli Lilly. Translation: silence is not consent. Each company's 30-day clock runs from its own notice; the Oct 4 filing had one objector and took 11 days to reach nine. (Ledger Insights)
- Aave V4 holds $10.1M of Coinbase's Base stock tokens, 53% of the $18.9M of them sitting in DeFi apps. Translation: Coinbase's tokens are 1:1 backed claims, shares held by Alpaca under ADGM supervision, non-US only. DeFi is where a backed claim earns its keep as collateral. (Coinfomania, citing Token Terminal)
- Tokens tied to Strategy (MSTR) total $473.4M; xStocks holds 55%, with STRCx at $156M and MSTRx at $114.3M. Translation: xStocks are 1:1 backed claims. One bitcoin-treasury company is a top-heavy slice of the tape, so its drawdowns are the sector's drawdowns. (CryptoBriefing)
Sixteen letters in, and the framework still hasn't needed a lawyer. That's the quiet part working.
Chart of the Day
"The shrinking roster." Stacked bars at three dates: OKXICE roster companies still unobjected versus roster companies that said no. Caption the one off-roster objector (Cerebras) separately; the message is 62 to 47 in 15 days.
Data points: Oct 4, 62 roster companies, 1 objection (Ledger Insights; whether that objector was on the roster is not stated). Oct 15, 8 roster objectors plus Cerebras, 54 unobjected (The Block). Oct 19, 15 roster objectors plus Cerebras, 47 unobjected (CoinDesk; FinanceFeeds). Roster: 63 tickers, 62 companies, Alphabet counted once.
Flow Watch
- Turnover: monthly transfer volume $10.28B, −73.02% versus the prior 30 days; monthly active addresses 1.64M, −52.56% (rwa.xyz, Oct 20). Holders printed 4.38M against 4.44M on Sunday; treat as a tracker restatement until rwa.xyz says otherwise.
- bStocks (1:1 backed claims, BTech Holdings under ADGM): $40B cumulative volume, above $300M a day. $6B converted at par between direct stock positions and tokens. 46.2% of collateral borrowed against by Sep 10. 38% of July volume fell inside US market hours, versus about 90% for cash equities (Bitcoin.com, citing Dune Research, Oct 15).
- DeFi: $313M of tokenized equities deployed in DeFi apps on Oct 15, from $15.5M on Jan 1 (DWF Labs via CryptoTimes, Oct 16). Coinbase Base tokens in DeFi: $18.9M, Aave V4 $10.1M (Coinfomania, Oct 20).
- Off-hours: more than half of tokenized equity trading happens outside regular US hours, and about 80% of trades are under one share (IMF GFSR via Decrypt, Oct 11). No weekend-specific print this week.
- Mints, redemptions, whale moves, premiums or discounts: nothing reported Oct 19–21.
The Rulebook
US. No new SEC action. The change is inside OKXICE's own notice: 16 objections, and a new line allowing issuer-tokenized shares beside third-party tokens (Decrypt, Oct 20). The venue restates that Regulation NMS, the rulebook tying US venues to one public best price, does not apply to it (FinanceFeeds). For a holder: offshore bStocks and xStocks (backed claims) or Ondo Global Markets (trackers) on the 16 names are untouched. The US on-venue route is shut at OKXICE.
EU. No change. Latest remains ESMA's Oct 9 call for evidence on tokenised collateral, responses due Jan 15, 2027.
Other. No change.
Deal Flow
- No raises, hires, M&A or licenses in tokenized public equities found Oct 19–21.
- Checked and set aside: an Oct 20 GlobeNewswire feature on TruGolf and Polymath covers franchise and film tokenization, not listed shares (GlobeNewswire).
The Playbook (Pro)
Split your OKXICE watchlist in two. The 16 objectors are closed on that venue. For them the route stays offshore: backed claims (bStocks, xStocks) or trackers (Ondo Global Markets). No US venue will compete on spread. The 47 unobjected names, JPMorgan, Walmart, Costco and Eli Lilly among them, are the live question. Diary the Oct 4 filing plus 30 days, about Nov 3. Re-read each new OKXICE notice for two things: new objectors, and any company using the issuer-token line. A first issuer-authorized share from a roster company would change the structure, not just the list.
RISK LINE: an objection says nothing about the stock; venues can refile; with no launch date published, Nov 3 is a floor, not a schedule.
Odds
Polymarket, "First to list tokenized stocks in the US?": Robinhood 50%, Kraken 22%, no listing by Dec 31, 2027 10.7%, Coinbase 5.7%, Gemini 5%. Volume $56,535, unchanged since Oct 16. Coinbase ladder ($5,382): by Oct 31, 14%; by Dec 31, 48%; by Mar 31, 2027, 65%; by Jun 30, 2027, 76%. No Kalshi market on sector dates found. Sixteen objections, zero dollars moved: the books are asleep.
Sign-off
Seven more companies said no, and the launch list is a quarter shorter. That's the tape. The bell isn't ringing.
Corrections and disclosures
No corrections to the Oct 19 issue. Editor note resolved: OKXICE filed its formal notice on Oct 4 and announced publicly on Oct 5 (Ledger Insights; CoinDesk). rwa.xyz's holder count fell to 4.38M from the 4.44M we printed Oct 19. We read this as a tracker restatement, not an error on our side.
