The Open

GM. The DTCC's full tokenization service is scheduled to switch on this month, which means the depository under more than $114 trillion of US securities gets a token mode. Four weeks ago the SEC handed platforms a five-year pass to trade tokenized stocks; now the plumbing shows up behind it.

THE 3AM LINE: Tokenized stocks are somewhere between $2.5 billion and $3.1 billion depending on who is counting. Monday, we start counting.

Top of the Tape

  1. The SEC's Innovation Exemption is live. Five years, platforms exempt from many exchange rules, liquidity providers exempt from dealer registration, synthetic tokens barred, and an issuer can veto its own ticker. Translation: a sandbox with a timer. The first US retail launches are the Q4 story. (Reuters via The Standard)
  2. Nasdaq put $100 million into Payward at $21 billion. Kraken's parent and the xStocks issuer will build Nasdaq Equity Tokens, launch targeted Q2 2027. Translation: the exchange that fought third-party tokens is building its own. (Fortune)
  3. AMC vs Robinhood. AMC says Robinhood runs an unauthorized market in its shares through the overseas token; Robinhood says brokers can build instruments on public stocks without permission. Under the new exemption, issuers get a veto. Watch this one. (Fortune)
  4. BNB Chain is the top venue. Token Terminal counts about $1 billion issued there, ahead of Ethereum at $770 million and Solana at $716 million. Translation: the chain war in this niche is not the one you expected. (Crypto Briefing via KuCoin)

Chart of the Day

Three issuers hold three quarters of the market: Ondo 31%, xStocks 22%, bStocks 22%, everyone else 25% (Token Terminal via Crypto Briefing, Sep 6 2026). That is not a market structure, that is a group chat.

Flow Watch

Transfer volume doubled to $8.41 billion in the month to July 14 while market value rose 43% to $2.16 billion. Holders rose 17% to 409,000 on rwa.xyz's count; a month later another read of the same data put holders at 1.18 million. Translation: nobody agrees on how many people hold these things. We will publish our count, and show the work.

The Rulebook

US: Innovation Exemption live since September 17. Nasdaq's rule change approved in March, NYSE's in April. DTCC's full service scheduled this month. What it changes: the compliant path to US retail now exists; the question is who walks it first.

EU: MiCA's transitional regime expired July 1; a service provider without CASP authorization cannot serve EU clients. What it changes: a token can be perfectly legal while its distribution channel goes dark.

Deal Flow

Nasdaq into Payward, $100 million at $21 billion. · Securitize, public since July 2. · Kraken's acquisition of Backed Finance, agreed last December.

The Playbook (Pro)

The structure trade. Three tokens, one stock. A 1:1-backed TSLA and a total-return TSLA should trade at the same price; the gap between them is the market pricing redemption rights and venue liquidity. Mind the Gap tracks it live.

RISK LINE: Redemption gates, minimums and jurisdictions differ by issuer; a premium can be a liquidity trap. A thing to watch, not advice.

That's the tape. The bell isn't ringing.
